THE CITY OF HENDERSON
Visit Henderson
"We'll be glad to see you — and we believe
you will be glad to see us"
Henderson is situated in the northern portion
of North Carolina, county seat of Vance County,
one of the richest and most productive tobacco
and cotton counties in the State. The city has a
population of 6,345 people, however, the city
proper with the suburbs within a radius of a
mile from its center, has a population of 12,000
or more.
Henderson is served by two of the largest
railroads operating in the State, and has bus
and truck lines extending out to all points.
Paved highways lead into Henderson from five
different directions, and from many other points
the city may be reached over improved roads,
all under State maintenance.
Henderson has a modern school system con-
sisting of both high and grammar schools. The
Henderson Institute, a Junior College for
Colored people, which is supported by the
Northern Presbyterian Church is also located
in Henderson and thus affording higher educa-
tional advantages to this race.
Henderson is proud of its Public Librar.y
which was established in 1924. The library is
housed in a beautiful building and is modern in
every respect. Many thousand books are avail-
able for use of the public, besides the library
operates the Dunbar Library at the Colored
graded school for the Negroes.
Henderson is the home of The Jubilee Hos-
pital, Colored, whose architecture is impressive
and is well equipped to take care of and render
medical service and attention for our people.
Henderson is a beautiful residential city. Its
streets are lined with shade trees. You will al-
ways find a cordial and hearty welcome await-
ing you in Henderson. Come and see our
modern and progressive city. A spirit of opti-
mism and confidence in Henderson's future
prevails.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Last year we came to the end of a half cen-
tury as an organization. We commemorated the
foresight and fidelity of the founders with fitting
tribute. The instrument bequeathed to us for
fostering the science of medicine in North Caro-
lina among Negroes, stands as a monument to
those pioneers and to us a heritage.
Now in the beginning of the next half cen-
tury, we are confronted with problems which
in some aspects bear a resemblance to those that
beset us in the past, yet in other ways they are
altogether unrelated.
We are responsible to those yet to come for
our stewardship. Shall we falter? We must
not, we cannot. Every man must do his duty.
We must continue to build by our interest — by
our contributions to the science of medicine ;
and by our oath to give of our best to a cause
so nobly wrought.
May I urge with confidence, that you be pres-
ent at our fifty-first session in Henderson?
Max C. King, M.D.,
President.
